Sam, one of the founders of the firm, is a special consultant to the firm. He retired after 46 years of distinguished service to his clients, the North Carolina State Bar and his community, and 37 years of exemplary leadership and service to the firm. Most recently Sam served as General Counsel to the firm. He practiced in the areas of commercial litigation, credit union law, dispute resolution (including mediation and arbitration) and representation of creditors in bankruptcy proceedings. Sam’s focus was on commercial contracts, business associations, and intellectual property. His clients range from publicly held companies and credit unions to partnerships, closely held corporations and individuals.
Sam received his B.A., with honors, from Harvard University. He received his J.D. from Duke University. Prior to entering private practice he was a prosecutor in the U.S. Army JAG Corps from 1969-1973. He is a certified mediator and a member of the Commercial Panel of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association, and continues to serve as a mediator and arbitrator.
