Robert Ponton began our Family Law practice area in 1980, and has been its group leader since that time. He, along with Heidi Bloom and Michelle Connell, are fellows in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, a national organization requiring an invitation from the members to join, which includes 34 members in North Carolina and many of the leading family law attorneys throughout the United States.
Five of the attorneys in our Family Law practice group (Heidi Bloom, Whit Clanton, Michelle Connell, Wes Gelb, and Robert Ponton) are North Carolina Board Certified Specialists in Family Law, a designation achieved only after successful peer review and completion of a written examination. This designation is currently shared by less than 230 other attorneys throughout North Carolina.
Judge K. Edward Greene joined the law firm following his retirement from the North Carolina Court of Appeals and is a member of our Family Law team. Among other skills, Judge Greene brings to our group the distinct perspective of someone who has dealt with family law issues as a trial court judge and appellate court judge for more than 25 years. Judge Greene is also a member of our Appellate Advocacy section.
Michelle Connell joined our firm in January of 2015. Michelle is an experienced practitioner and is board certified in both family law and appellate practices.
Six of our attorneys (Heidi Bloom, Whit Clanton, Michelle Connell, Wes Gelb, Judge Greene, and Robert Ponton) have been recognized for their professional accomplishments as North Carolina Super Lawyers, which is an award voted upon by their peers. Robert Ponton was named one of the top 100 lawyers in the 2014 edition of North Carolina Super Lawyers. Six of our attorneys (Heidi Bloom, Whit Clanton, Michelle Connell, Wes Gelb, Judge Greene, and Robert Ponton) have been recognized in Best Lawyers in America.
Altogether, the attorneys in our Family Law practice have over 125 years of combined experience in the area of family law. The judgment gained from those many years of experience enables us to provide insight and practical advice regarding all kinds of family law issues. We have extensive experience in handling cases concerning alimony and child support, the valuation of businesses and professional practices, and dividing all types of marital estates. We also understand that, in addition to the many important financial issues involved in family law, the most important thing for many of our clients is to protect their interests with regard to their children. We are experienced in advocating for our clients with respect to their children.
