One of the most widespread and persistent problems that employers face in today’s workplace is absenteeism. Absenteeism affects every employer, and costs businesses millions of dollars every year. While some employee absences are unavoidable and justified by illness or injury, many employees take advantage of their employer’s leave policies or misuse legally mandated leave programs such as those provided by state workers’ compensation law and the federal Family and Medical Leave Act.
